Buying with family member question

I am looking to purchase a home with a family member. Her half would be paid in cash and I would take out a mortgage for a portion of my half.

My question is - since her name is on the house, does she also have to be on the mortgage? Or can I be the sole borrower?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

She could be on the deed but not on the mortgage.
